rose – part 3

finally the carving starts looking somewhat like a rose… i am almost finished with the big petals, some minor cleanups in tight areas necessary, but i think the main is there now… hope you enjoy,,,,

    This is pretty Doris. Your mother-n-law will be so touched. One thing that really works nicely is to have a real rose to look at rather than photos. All of the ripples and curled up edges give it life. Carving wood thick enough to be sturdy but thin enough to look delicate has to be a challenge. Yours is coming along well.

    hello Tamara, yes a real rose is like having a clay model, so to say, one can lok and touch, to really see the forms…i think, i will not have the time to carve too much detail, it is going slower than i thought it will (as usual…lol) … as to the delicacy, in this particuar case, the challenge is increased, since the rose will be also handled by someone with almost no vision, so i cant risk to make edges which break just because you touch them accidentially on wrong angle… thank you for commenting, i am glad you like the rose so far

      hello ralph,,,the rose is pretty big, i cut it from a cylinder with 20cm in diameter… when finished i try to rememberr to make a foto with size reference…
